I think Eve is the most successful. Not in terms of number of accounts. That's obviously WoW. I think it's the most successful because the goal of an MMO is to be a long term business. Eve is the only MMO with a population that's still growing after all this time. MMOs usually hit their peak shortly after launch and then slowly decline. It's not the most successful in terms of popularity, but nothing good ever is. It is, however, the most successful in achieving the objective of creating an MMO. In my opinion that outranks popularity.
And for the record, popularity means nothing when it comes to how good something is. Honda sells way more cars than Lamborghini, but have you ever seen anyone say Hondas are better? |

I wonder if he is aware of the average server population in most current MMORPGs. AFAIK, WoW realms held between 4.000 and 8.000 accounts. Tranquility typically holds 40.000 to 50.000 players simultaneously (not just "belonging to the server"). I don't know nor do I care about WOW. Not sure what it is you're actually trying to prove here other than being a fail troll. I remember lot's of times seeing only 15 k online in Eve, with 30 k being the norm for weekend count. And I also remember seeing over 65 k online. Of course that was before CCP started the war on bots. There were over 50k last time I logged in. |

Right now as I'm typing this there is a little over 33 k online which is pretty much the average amount. The last time I logged in was today. Ever think you're just playing in a bad time zone? Average high point of the day for me is 45k-55k. 30k is a rare sight for me. Only happens in the middle of the night when i'm on late. There's 31k on right now because it's 10pm so kids and most people with normal 9-5 jobs have logged out for the night. |
